MEANT TO BE CALLIGRAPHY

Hooray! We’ve opened registration for our spring workshops! In addition to our signature calligraphy workshop, Introduction to Contemporary Pointed Pen Calligraphy, we have also added more dates for Introduction to Modern Brush Lettering!

While modern calligraphy is our first love, we are also incredibly smitten with brush lettering and we are so excited about this new class! Wondering about the difference between the two types of lettering? In the photo above, you can see the contrast. On the left is an example of our pointed pen calligraphy, on the right, our brush lettering. Pointed pen allows for finer “hairlines” and detail work, whereas brush lettering is typically a little bolder (and, side-note, perfect for bullet journaling!). Both are incredibly useful, fun and relaxing to execute! But don’t take our word for it; here’s some of the feedback we’ve received from students since launching our brush lettering workshops in January:

  • Such an inspiring class yesterday! I am so excited and have already practiced today. Thank you for introducing me to my new favorite hobby! – MK
  • I had a wonderful time at your class. It was everything I hoped it could be and look forward to making my bullet journal the prettiest one at [my office]. – LD
  • This was the most fun I had in a long time! You are a fantastic teacher, so patient, kind and motivating! Thank you! – JS

This season, you can find us returning to teach both pointed pen and brush lettering at our all of favorite spots: Washington, D.C. (at The Lemon Bowl in Park View, The Embassy Row Hotel in Dupont Circle and Typecase Industries in Shaw), Baltimore (at Becket Hitch), Middleburg (at the Middleburg Events Studio), Charlottesville (at Rock Paper Scissors), Falls Church (at Stylish Patina’s Rough Luxe Warehouse) and Alexandria (at the Morrison House).

Past calligraphy students: we hope you’ll join us at a brush workshop! We will also be offering Continuing with Contemporary Pointed Pen Calligraphy again in both March and June and we would absolutely love to see you again at one of those! Our popular Calligraphy Study Tables are on hold for Wedding Season, but we’ll bring them back soon.

We hope that you will be able to join us for a modern pointed pen calligraphy workshop or a modern brush lettering workshop (or both!). As always, we’ll be keeping the class size super small to allow for plenty of individual attention and instruction, so if you are interested in taking part this spring (or in gifting a class to someone else – a spot in our workshops is the perfect birthday, anniversary, Mother’s Day or graduation gift!), please don’t wait too long to secure your spot. You can find ALL of the details and register for all of our workshops here.
